Is it Math time yet?

Happy Wednesday!

Well, we seem to be moving along with the ELA Standards for the CC.  Our next big task is to start getting tools set for math implementation.  My school is going to implement the CC Math standards next school year, but I am starting to get resources in place because before you know it next year will be here!  :-)

I have started a math a page.  To find the resources for math click on the tab at the top that says CC Math.

Hope you will find something useful to help you start your math implementation!

God bless,
Tami

CC Lesson Resources

Happy Monday!

Planning lessons is a fun part of teaching, but also a stressful and time consuming part of teaching.  With that in mind I found two sites that provide free lesson plans based on the CCSS.  The plans I previewed from the sites were well written and contained the rigor that the CC is striving for.

I hope these help ease some of the planning woes!

Enjoy!

Creating ELA Lesson Plans

Happy Saturday!

Goodness knows, teachers are well versed in creating lesson plans, but creating lesson plans that incorporate the heart of the Common Core has caused a lot worry, stress, and a LOT of time.  The issue of time, I think, is really the most crucial problem with lesson planning.  Quite honestly, there just isn't enough time in the day to create lessons, incorporate them into a lesson plan, and teach.  Certainly this will get much better with time, but like with anything that is new - change is arduous.

To help our teachers in the planning process I have been researching lesson plans for the ELA standards of the CCSS.  Below are various resources that either provide actual lesson plans or support in creating lesson plans that incorporate more in depth, high order skills.

I hope these are helpful and will help ease the strain of planning quality, student-centered lessons.

Happy Saturday!
Tami

Free Common Core Resources

Happy Wednesday!

I was reading some material from ASCD today and came across some great free resources for the CCSS!

  • ASCD Launches EduCore™ Tool
ASCD introduces the new, free EduCore™ digital tool for educators implementing the Common Core State Standards in mathematics and literacy. The EduCore tool is a repository of evidence-based strategies, videos, and supporting documents that help middle and high school educators transition to the Common Core State Standards. Through a simple registration process, educators can access additional EduCore features, such as the ability to save searches, organize tools, and annotate resources. In the coming months, ASCD will add more mathematics formative assessment lessons and sample literacy modules. A webinar is scheduled for Wednesday, October 3, at 3:00 p.m. ET to provide an overview of the EduCore tool.

  • New Common Core Resources on the Inside Mathematics WebsiteClassroom video examples illustrating the math practice standards and videos of exemplary lessons integrating multiple math practices are now available on the Inside Mathematics website. Four new classroom videos of "Number Talks" show students engaged in mental math exercises and conversations, including one from a bilingual Spanish-English classroom. Visit the site to explore free materials and tasks that teachers can use immediately with students.

  • PARCC Releases Test Items and Task PrototypesThe Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers (PARCC) released its first set of item and task prototypes for both English language arts/literacy and mathematics. The prototype items may be helpful in building the actual assessment item.

Wishing you all a peace-filled evening!

God bless,
Tami
